HAART
House (highly active anti-retroviral
therapy) is now a satellite program of
the Boyle McCauley Health Centre.
It
is a medical research project providing prescribed daily
HIV medications and emotional and social support. It targets
HIV positive inner city residents with a history of homelessness
and difficulty adhering to their HIV medication treatment
regimens. Highly active anti-retroviral therapy is only
effective if it is taken almost every day. Unfortunately,
some people miss too many doses or cannot tolerate some
of the medication's side effects. HAART House attempts to
assist clients take the medication the way it should be
taken by providing incentive and support for HIV positive
individuals who require HIV medications.
Established
in 2001, HAART House has proved successful and now serves
over 35 clients.
Services:
Clients
of the program can receive their meds on a daily basis in
the home-like environment of HAART House. In addition, lunches,
